Principal Bistro

Hours: Mon – Fri, 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm; Mon-Sun, 6:30 pm - 10:30 pm
Why we like it: Traditional Madeiran dishes fused with mainland Portuguese and Mediterranean flavors, relying heavily on local ingredients. If you save room for dessert, try the caramelized banana tartlet!
Cris's

Hours: Mon–Sun, 10:00 am – 10:30 pm
Why we like it: Great service, great food, and a great wine list. The evenings often include live music.
Restaurante do Forte
Address: Rua do Forte 3, 9060-123, Funchal
Hours: Mon-Sun, 12pm-3pm and 6:30pm-10:30pm
Why we like it: Located inside the historical 17th century Fortress of Sao Tiago fort on the water is unique and beautiful. It has a nice courtyard with outdoor seating. The food is very good with vegetarian options.
William
Address: Estrada Monumental 139, Funchal
Hours: Tues – Sat, 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Why we like it: Awarded a Michelin star, William offers phenomenal, contemporary Portuguese cuisine with stunning coastal views. Reservations are required as this is a very popular restaurant in town.
O Barquerio Marisqueira
Address: Centro Comercial Centromar, 9000-101, Funchal
Hours: Mon-Sun, 12:00pm-10:30pm
Why we like it: The locals will tell you this is one of the best seafood restaurants in town. The seafood platters for 2 will easily feed 3 and contain every local fish you want to try! Don't miss the famous Madeira 'caviar' and the local scabbard fish with banana.
The Wanderer
Address: Avenida do Infante, 11, Centro Commercial Olipmo, Funchal
Hours: 7:30 pm dinner
Why we like it: A 5-course tasting menu featuring local, home-grown ingredients and products from Madeira, it's a culinary journey for all foodies out there and will not disappoint. Reservations are required.

Why we like it: This family-run restaurant is known for its simple yet authentic dishes where the ingredients shine. We recommend their famous clams, "à Bulhão Pato," if available – they are delicious!
