Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1:

Welcome to Madeira

Upon your arrival at Madeira International Airport, you’ll be met by a driver and brought to your hotel in Funchal center to drop your bags. The day is then yours to explore the charming city streets. Stroll down to the waterfront and relax at a cafe.

Day 2:

Levada Walk

After breakfast, meet your guide and head to the lightly populated west coast of Madeira for a levada walk. “Levada” is the Portuguese word for channel and the lush forests of the island are crisscrossed by these levadas that bring water from the rainy and wet north to the drier south. These levadas are cut into the steep mountain slopes of the island, with trails about a foot wide built alongside them. Today’s levada walk begins on Madeira’s largest plateau and continues down the island’s biggest valley, the Rabacal valley, to the Rabacal house - a small shelter that used to house workers who repaired the levadas. Next, at 25 Fountains, you will find 25 natural springs falling into a small crystal clear lake surrounded by dense vegetation. Afterwards, return to the plateau and ride back to Funchal in the late afternoon.

Day 3:

Half-Day Coasteering Tour

Visit beautiful coastline in a natural reserve for a half day of coasteering. In the warm waters that surround Madeira, move along the intertidal zone using several techniques like swimming, jumping, and climbing. It’s all on you: no boats, surf boards, or other craft. You will be equipped with a wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet, and shoes. Explore the coastline, amazing cliffs, rock formations, and clear ocean waters while learning about the marine environment and some local traditions.

Day 4:

Half-Day Sea Kayaking Tour

See Madeira’s rugged coastline from the water on your half-day sea kayaking tour. Not only is this an ideal way to appreciate the terrain, it is also an ideal way to experience some bird watching - a popular pastime in Madeira.

Day 5:

Free Day in Funchal

Today is yours to explore however you would like. Sleep in, take a swim in the hotel pool, or stroll through Funchal. Visit Funchal Cathedral, ride the cable car, or explore some of the city’s beautiful botanical gardens.

Day 6:

Until Next Time

After breakfast, use the last of your time in Funchal to shop for souvenirs or simply relax at a café before your transfer back to the airport for your flight home.
