Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1:

Welcome to Lisbon

Upon arrival in Lisbon, you will meet your driver and head to your boutique hotel in Lisbon. The rest of the day is yours to start exploring this historic and cosmopolitan city.

Day 2:

Lisbon City Tour

Spend your day exploring Lisbon using your Yellow Bus passes. These passes allow you access to the hop-on-hop-off bus, the local trams, and the water taxi. For an amazing view of the city, take the tram to the Alfama hilltop and then walk up to Castelo de São Jorge. Or head out to Bélem by taking the water taxi from the waterfront. Here, you can visit the Tower of Belém, the Discoveries Monument, Jerónimos Monastery, and other popular tourist attractions.

Day 3:

Sintra and Cascais Tour

Escape the hustle and bustle of Lisbon on a full-day tour of Sintra and Cascais. These two villages are within easy access of the city center and located in an area of protected natural beauty. Following a pick-up from your hotel, drive to Sintra Hills, home to fairytale palaces and castles. Look inside Pena Palace, considered one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. Enjoy a pleasant walk in the grounds and admire views of Lisbon on the horizon from its balconies. Next, explore the picture-postcard village of Sintra, stopping to taste the local pastries and shop for souvenirs. Continue to Cabo da Roca to stand at the westernmost point of mainland Europe. Next, travel along the coastal road where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Tagus River. En route, stop at the fishing village of Cascais, transformed into a home for kings-in-exile and also a site of espionage during World War II. Return to Lisbon along the magnificent Avenida Marginal, enjoying views of the Estoril Coast along the way.

Day 4:

Évora Tour

Journey through the history of Portugal and humanity on this tour of Évora and the dolmens of Almendres Cromlech. Discover hidden gems from Roman, Medieval, and Renaissance times. Following a pick-up from your hotel, drive to Évora, the historic capital of the Alentejo region. Start the day with a tour of the Almendres Cromlech. Older than Stonehenge, this megalithic complex reveals some of the secrets of ancient civilizations and their knowledge of astronomy. Later, learn how cork is extracted from Cork Oak trees while you stroll on the countryside of Évora. After arriving to the city of Évora, explore the UNESCO classified city center, seeing sights from Roman times to the Renaissance. Go to the Temple of Diana, thought to date back to the 1st century AD. Jumping in time to the Medieval period, visit the Évora Cathedral, a megnificent example of Romanic architecture. During lunch time (on your own), you can visit its interior and climb to the roof to admire the golden plains surrounding the city. Continue to the Renaissance Church of St. Francis to see the Chapel of Bones (Capela dos Ossos). Afterwards, return to Lisbon by the beautiful roads of Alentejo and admire the views of Lisbon entering the city from its bridges.

Day 5:

North or South?

Choose to go north or south for today's day trip. To the north, discover the devotion of Nossa Senhora de Fátima at one of the most important religious sanctuaries in the world. Later, learn all about one of the most important events of Portuguese history: the heroic battle of Aljubarrota, after which the beautiful Batalha Monastery was built. Then taste fresh fish at the scenic fishing village of Nazaré and marvel at the medieval walled village of Óbidos, one of most picturesque in Portugal.

To the south, visit Arrábida Natural Park, a protected region blanketed by Mediterranean vegetation. Journey to Meco Beach, the clifftop Cabo Espichel, and the fishing town of Sesimbra with its Moorish castle. Enjoy leisure time at Arrábida’s beautiful beaches, if you prefer, or visit caves, hidden ports, and Setúbal's Casa da Baía, where you can learn about local species and the resident dolphin community.

Day 6:

Until Next Time

After breakfast, use the last of your time in Lisbon to shop for souvenirs or simply relax at a café before your transfer back to the airport for your flight home.
