Royal Madrid & the Canary Islands

On this 8-day tour, experience the majestic and royal city of Madrid and then head south to the sunny Canary Islands. On Tenerife, walk the beach and enjoy idyllic weather, visit a local vineyard, and go stargazing atop the highest point in Spain, Mt Teide. Also, spend a day on La Gomera island, where you will taste authentic Canarian food and visit Garajonay National Park!

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1:

Welcome to Madrid

Upon arrival in Madrid, you will be met at the airport by your driver and taken to your downtown hotel. The afternoon and evening are yours to enjoy the city. We recommend a walk down to Calle de la Cava, a neighborhood known for its traditional tapas!

Day 2:

Madrid City Tour

In the morning, enjoy a walking tour of Madrid’s major sites. Learn about the history of the most important buildings, squares, and avenues: from the old Habsburg to the Bourbons Quarter. Then, the guide will leave you with fast-track entrance to the Royal Palace, with it’s opulent interior decoration. The afternoon and evening is yours to enjoy. For something unique, visit the Temple of Debod, dating back to the 2nd century BC and donated to the city of Madrid by the Egyptian government for preservation.

Day 3:

Goodbye, Madrid & Hello, Canary Islands!

You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Madrid and driven to the airport. A short flight will take you to the largest of the Canary Islands, the beautiful Tenerife. When you arrive, you will be transferred to your beachfront hotel in Costa Adeje and the rest of the day is yours to relax and get to know the area.

Day 4:

Hiking in Anaga or Teno National Park

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up for a half day of hiking in either Anaga Natural Forest, a UNESCO Biosphere, or the Teno Mountain range and the town of Masca. Tours operate on certain days of the week, so let us know which is of interest to you, or maybe add both!

Day 5:

La Gomera

Board the ferry for your visit to La Gomera, an island of hidden beauty. Explore the island in chauffeur-driven jeeps, enjoying the open air and panoramic views. During your day on the island, discover Garajonay National Park and the ancient rain forest, visit small and tranquil villages, sample traditional Gomeran cuisine for lunch, and learn about the fascinating whistling language that is found only on this island. You will also have time to explore San Sebastian, the island's capital city that was once visited by Christopher Columbus on his way to discover the new world. At the end of the day, board the ferry to return to Tenerife.

Day 6:

Mt. Teide

After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely day to yourself; relax on the beach or explore the town. This evening, you’ll visit Las Cañadas National Park, home to Mt. Teide. This park is characterized by its unique, lunar landscape and beautiful plant life. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007, Mt. Teide is an iconic attraction and a must-see for visitors. Tonight, you'll experience why Tenerife is one of the best locations on the planet for stargazing; its clear skies, low light pollution, and high altitude will allow you to see the night sky like never before.
