Azores Discovery

This 7-day itinerary is a relaxing exploration of the island of Sao Miguel, the largest island in the Azores archipelago. Spend two nights in Furnas, relaxing at the hot springs and exploring the botanical gardens of Terra Nostra Park. Afterwards, spend four nights in the city of Ponta Delgada, enjoying a guided, food-themed walking tour, as well as an excursion out to the western side of the island.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1:

Welcome to Sao Miguel

Upon your arrival at Ponta Delgada International Airport, you’ll be met by a driver and brought to your spa hotel located in the village of Furnas. The rest of the day is yours to explore the quaint streets in town or head into the gardens and take a dip - you have unlimited access to the geothermal hot springs at the hotel!

Day 2:

Free Day

Spend your free day enjoying the hot springs and botanical gardens of Terra Nostra Park, or stroll through the quaint town of Furnas.

Day 3:

Ribeira Grande, Nordeste, and Ponta Delgada

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and depart for your private tour of Ribeira Grande and Nordeste. Located on the northern coast, Ribeira Grande is the second-largest city on Sao Miguel. Admire the traditional architecture and taste locally-produced liqueurs before continuing onto the picturesque town of Nordeste on the island’s northeastern coast. At the end of the tour, arrive at your 4-star hotel in Ponta Delgada.

Day 4:

Western Sao Miguel/Sete Cidades Tour

This half-day tour begins with a stop at a pineapple plantation for an opportunity to see how the island's delicious fruit is grown. Then visit some of the most scenic lookout points on the western end of the island, including Vista do Rei, where you’ll see the iconic blue and green crater lakes of Sete Cidades.

Day 5:

Ponta Delgada Food Tour

Spend the afternoon discovering some of the best food in Portugal on your guided culinary walking tour through Ponta Delgada. Explore artisanal eateries and restaurants in a mix of sightseeing, delicious food, and great stories. From timeless recipes to innovative modern cuisine, you will enjoy a progressive menu that includes the unique Azorean pineapple, physalis and blackberry jams, seafood and organic meats, and homemade desserts such as passion fruit bavaroise and green tea ice cream!

Day 6:

Free Day

Today is yours to continue exploring the cobblestone streets of the Azores’ largest city. Visit the Portas da Cidade (city gate), the historic St. Sebastian Church, and Forte de São Brás, or simply relax in a café near the marina. Of, if you wish to head out of town, the Gruta do Carvão lava caves and the Caldeira Velha hot springs are just two of the options within reach.

Day 7:

Until Next Time

After breakfast, you’ll have some time to shop for souvenirs or simply relax with the locals at an oceanfront café before your transfer back to the airport for your flight home.
