Azores Adventure Seeker

We had the traveler with an adventurous spirit in mind when we created this itinerary. Active individuals of all skill levels will be able to jump right into all the fun activities that the island of Sao Miguel has to offer. Rappel down a waterfall, canoe in a crater lake, and even bike the volcanic terrain. In your free time, enjoy the slower pace and vibrant culture of the Azores as you explore the charming city of Ponta Delgada.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1:

Welcome to the Green Island

Upon your arrival at Ponta Delgada International Airport, you’ll be met by a driver and brought to your city center hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore the cobblestone streets of the Azores’ largest city.

Day 2:

Canyoning in Ribeira dos Caldeirões

Get your adrenaline pumping! This adventurous activity is suitable for all ages and skill levels and is the perfect way to experience one of the beautiful, untouched areas of the island. Head out to the natural reserve of Ribeira dos Caldeirões on the north side of the island and get geared-up in a wetsuit, helmet, and harness. You will then hike in the riverbed, surrounded by canyon walls covered in lush vegetation. From time to time, you will encounter pools to swim across, large rocks to slide down, and waterfalls! At each waterfall, you will rappel down under the supervision of your knowledgeable and skilled guides. This is truly a unique experience that you will always remember!

Day 3:

Canoeing on Lagoa das Furnas Lake and Terra Nostra Park Visit

Today you will head to the eastern side of Sao Miguel for a day of peace and tranquility. Take in the beautiful natural landscape as you spend the morning canoeing on Lagoa das Furnas. While you paddle, your traditional cozido lunch will be cooking in the ground on the banks of the lake. After lunch, you will head to Terra Nostra Park to visit the award-winning botanical gardens and also relax in the hot springs. A truly relaxing day spent in a beautiful place!

Day 4:

Half Day Biking Sete Cidades

On this half-day excursion, you will discover the western part of São Miguel, exploring the volcanic system of Sete Cidades parish. Enjoy an easy bike ride in this landscape dominated by its blue and green lakes and considered to be one of the seven natural wonders of Portugal. Transfers from Ponta Delgada follow the scenic coastal southwest road of São Miguel for beautiful ocean views.

Day 5:

Your Day to Explore

Today is yours to explore Sao Miguel on your own. Relax at your hotel or in town, or book a whale and dolphin watching tour.

Day 6:

Until Next Time

After breakfast, you’ll have some time to shop for souvenirs or simply relax with the locals at an oceanfront café before your transfer back to the airport for your flight home.

My journey to the Azores was an incredible learning experience. We got to see and take in so many different facets of Terceira and Sao Miguel. Erika was so full of information for us with lots of tidbits to share. All of the people were warm and welcoming. All of the restaurants were unique, and we got a true flavor of each island. We had a great experience taking in the evening food tour with our great group. And then having the Cozido lunch was amazing. The guides on each island or on our excursions were well versed what they were sharing with us and were excited to share it with us. Everything was clean and respected. I still can't believe we got so much in on your visit; bathing pools, lava caves, the Jeep tour, tea and pineapple plantation all mixed in with a bit of luck to get into the wine museum. I will have to go back and get into the hot springs! Thank you for including me! It makes such a difference to see it.
