From world-class wine tastings and UNESCO landmarks to volcanic wonders and oceanfront cafés, this trip offers the best of mainland Portugal and island life in one unforgettable itinerary.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1:

Welcome to Porto

Upon arrival in Porto, you will meet your driver and head to your boutique hotel in Porto. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy however you choose.

Day 2:

Porto City Tour

Embark on a half-day tour of Porto. From Ribeira (old town) to Foz (river mouth), passing by the most important monuments and places, you will learn about the history and culture of this town, its traditions and emotions. During the tour, you will also visit the Port wine cellars for a tasting and learn more about the history of Port wine, its production and storage.

Day 3:

Douro Valley Tour

Depart from Porto by van and head out into the Douro River Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In addition to stops in Peso da Régua, Pinhão, and typical villages, you will also visit two stages of wine production. In Pinhão, one of the most beautiful and traditional villages in the region, you will enjoy a traditional lunch and taste the wonderful flavors of the Douro's regional gastronomy. Later, you will enjoy a magnificent boat ride down the river and a tasting of olive oils and other products of the Douro region.

Day 4:

Free Day Porto

Today is a free day for you to explore Porto at your own pace. Visit some of the most iconic landmarks like the Clérigos tower, the old Jewish quarter, and the 12th century Sé Cathedral. Further up into the city, along Rua das Carmelitas, is the Livraria Lello Bookshop. Known as the Harry Potter bookstore, its beautiful interior is said to have been JK Rowling’s inspiration.

Day 5:

Flight to Terceira

Upon arrival at Terceira International airport, you'll be met by your driver and taken to your hotel in Angra do Heroísmo. Spend the rest of the day exploring Angra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of three Azorean capital cities. In the evening, enjoy strolling the lilac-filled streets and find a local restaurant to try the island's signature dish, Alcatra.

Day 6:

UNESCO Angra do Heroísmo walking tour

Enjoy a guided walking tour of the capital city of Angra do Heroísmo. Learn more about the traditional Azorean city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, named for its importance in the political, economic, and religious growth of the Azores archipelago. Visit the Duke of Terceira Garden a garden filled with many plant species gifted from around the world, emblematic of the Romantic period of Portuguese history. Check out the Cathedral of Angra do Heroísmo, the largest building in the Azores featuring two bell towers.

Day 7:

Western Terceira/Biscoitos Tour

This full-day tour starts with an ascent of Monte Brasil for a wonderful view of Angra and the bays. Heading north, you will see lava fields that have been cultivated into vineyards before continuing to Biscoitos, home to natural swimming pools. After lunch in a traditional restaurant, you will visit the island's wine museum. On the return to Angra do Heroísmo, you will visit the Algar do Carvão lava tube. This unique geologic feature can only be found in a few places in the world, including on Sao Miguel and Terceira.

Day 8:

Until Next Time

After breakfast, you’ll have some time to shop for souvenirs or simply relax with the locals at an oceanfront café before your transfer back to the airport for your flight home.
