Which Tenerife Beach Should You Visit?

Playa-de-Las-Teresitas Tenerife

While some are shivering bundled in parkas, duck boots and gloves, praying for winter to pass, some are already planning ahead. And lucky for you, a winter in Tenerife is sitting underneath palm trees on the beach with an ice-cold chunky monkey in your hand. And here's the bonus: the temperate climate allows you to enjoy the beach along with all the other adventure and excursion activities. So, with so many breathtaking beach options, how do you narrow down which Tenerife beach to choose? We’ve teamed up with a Tenerife pro and listed his top 6. It’s time to trade in your parka for sandals, bathing suits, sunscreen and shades.

Playa del Duque

Surrounded by palm trees and stretches of golden sand, this exclusive resort is the essence of chic and ideal for anyone staying in Costa Adeje. Perfect for those looking for relaxation and fun in the sun, this cove-like southern Tenerife beach is located directly in front of Bahia del Duque has its perks. Think: an upscale beach bar and services.

With calm and shallow waters because of the Jetty built, Playa del Duque is also considered the most child-friendly beach of the South coast. Not to mention clean. Awarded with the “Blue Flag”, it’s no wonder that del Duque makes our list for one of Tenerife’s best beaches.

Abama Beach

Tucked away on the southwest coast of Tenerife and near Playa San Juan, Abama beach is truly a hidden gem. While technically public, access is almost impossible without taking the funicular from the hotel. With sprawling golden sand, a full service beach and service, it’s hard to not feel ultimate seclusion and peace at this luxurious Tenerife beach where you’re surrounded by the cliffs of the Abama Hotel Resort.

Playa de la Arena

A volcanic black sand beach surrounded by a vibrant tourist town, this urban Tenerife beach on the southwest coast is bustling full of energy. During the day, take a break from lounging on the beach and go snorkeling or scuba diving. Or, check out the restaurants and unique tourist shops on both sides of the coves then take a day trip to Los Gigantes.

El Medano Beach

A mix of black and golden sand, El Medano is the beach for those seeking adventure. This large sprawling Tenerife beach in the south is especially popular with the surfing crowd. Perfect for wind surfing and kite surfers, it also has plenty of surf shops, restaurants and cafes. This beach also has the distinction of being awarded a Blue Flag, which guarantees top quality services and ideal swimming conditions.

Playa de las Teresitas

Ideal for locals from Santa Cruz, this beach is only ten minutes outside the city. A long sprawling Tenerife beach with golden sand that stretches for almost one mile, it is widely regarded as one of the nicest beaches in the north of Tenerife. Palm trees sway in the breeze and the beautiful calm blue waters are perfect for cooling off. Not to mention with amenities right on the beach, like showers, lifeguards and beach bars, it’s a no-brainer this popular local beach made our list.

Playa Jardin

Located in the bustling town of Puerto de la Cruz, this is one of most famous beaches in the region. An urban black sand beach with big and bold waves, it is the perfect spot to not only soak up the suns rays, but also the spectacular views of Mount Teide. The beach also has botanical gardens, created by Cesar Manrique, the artist and architect from Lanzarote. Add in the fact it was awarded a Blue Flag, and the abundance of various restaurants, bars and shops surrounding the beach, it’s obvious when this picturesque Tenerife beach made our list.
