Restaurant: Restaurante Alcides

Address: Rua Hintze Riberio 67, Ponta Delgada

Hours: Mon - Sat, 12:00pm - 3:00pm and 7:00pm - 10:00pm 

Why we like it: Opened in 1956, this is one of the longest running restaurants in the area, and somewhat of a legend. Their Bife à Alcides is said to be the best on the island. We recommend you try it!

 

Restaurant: Osteria Casa Nostra Açores

Address: Rua Hintze Riberio 22, Ponta Delgada

Hours: Mon - Fri, 12:00pm - 2:00pm and 7:00pm - 9:30pm, Sat 7:00pm - 9:30pm 

Why we like it: The tasting menu is fantastic and features traditional Azorean flavors and fresh ingredients with a modern spin. 

 

Restaurant: O Giro

Address: Rua Diário dos Açores 35, Ponta Delgada

Hours: Mon - Sat, 12:00pm - 3:00pm and 6:00pm - 10:00pm 

Why we like it: The space has a cool, romantic vibe. They have a very comprehensive menu with large portions, including fantastic Azorean steak and some interesting contemporary offerings.

 

Restaurant: Adega do Mestre Andre

Address: Rua Manuel da Ponte 28, Ponta Delgada

Hours: Mon - Thurs, 12:00pm - 2:00pm and 6:30pm - 10:30pm; Friday 12:00pm - 3:00pm and 6:30pm - 11:00pm; Saturday 6:30pm - 11:00pm

Why we like it: This is a hidden gem. just a couple of blocks up from the City Gate. The food is super local and the staff is great.  It is a perfect stop for an Azorean steak or octopus. 

 

Restaurant: Louvre Michaelense Bar Bistro Mercearia

Address: Rua António José D'Almeida 8, Ponta Delgada

Hours: Daily 11:00am - Midnight

Why we like it: Would you expect a French Bistro in the heart of Ponta Delgada? Louvre Michaelense is a fun surprise with a menu of unique and flavorful dishes.  It is just up the street from São Sebastião Church. 

 

A Bonus Entry!  Located about 20 minutes outside Ponta Delgada this restaurant is well worth the trip out of town.

Restaurant Name: Bar Caloura

Address: Rua da Caloura 20, Agua de Pau

Hours: Daily, 12:00pm - 9:30pm

Why we like it: The locals say it has the best and freshest seafood on the island.  The cooking is simple and they only serve what was caught that day. It is a very casual setting, right on the water, in the tiny town of Caloura. This restaurant is out of town and a nice treat away from the hustle and bustle of Ponta Delgada.  There is a swimming area right next door with changing rooms if you want to take a dip while you are there!
