The Cabo Verde & Azores archipelagos both sit in the Atlantic Ocean and can be visited in one trip, but each has its own distinctive character. This itinerary allows you to sample both, experiencing their natural beauty, delicious cuisine, and rich history.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1:

Welcome to Praia, Cabo Verde

After flying through the Azores, you will arrive at Praia International Airport on the island of Santiago. Your driver will transfer you to your oceanfront hotel in Praia, where you will spend the next 2 nights. Spend the rest of your day exploring this vibrant city.

Day 2:

Tour of Cidade Velha

Today, enjoy a half-day visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Cidade Velha, the first town built by the Portuguese in Cabo Verde. Walk from the small village of Salineiro and arrive at Fort de Sao Miguel, overlooking the village. Descend to the creek and end the day with a traditional lunch.

Day 3:

Welcome to Sal, Cabo Verde

After a quick inter-island flight to the island of Sal, you’ll be met by your driver and brought to your beach resort hotel in Santa Maria, just a 20-minute drive to the south. The rest of the day is yours to spend however you would like - let the relaxation begin!

Day 4:

Free Day on Santa Maria Beach

Today is yours to enjoy on your own. Take the day to relax and unwind - lounge in the sun by the pool or on the beautiful beach in Santa Maria.

Day 5:

Sal Island Tour

Enjoy a full-day tour of the island of Sal and get to know the culture of Cabo Verde. Begin with a drive towards the main village of Espargos, stopping at Morro do Coral hill. From this viewpoint, you can enjoy a beautiful vista of the village and its surroundings. Enjoy a walking tour of Espargos village and get a look at the day-to-day life of its residents. Continue onto the fishing village of Palmeira, then to Terra Boa, the agricultural area of the island. At Salinas de Pedra de Lume, a low-elevation salt crater, you will have a chance to float in water with a salt content that is 26 times greater than the ocean. It is said to be very relaxing and healing for the skin. After lunch, the tour returns to the southern part of the island to Ponta Preta Beach. Each year, this beach hosts a windsurfing championship. Finish the day by visiting the village market, the famous Fisherman's Wharf, and Santa Maria Beach.

Day 6:

Welcome to Sao Miguel, The Azores

After breakfast, say goodbye to Cabo Verde and fly to the Azores. Upon arrival at Ponta Delgada International Airport on the Azorean island of Sao Miguel, you’ll be met by a private driver and brought to your hotel in the city's center. The rest of the day is yours to explore the cobblestone streets of the Azores’ largest city. Visit the Portas da Cidade (city gate), the historic St. Sebastian Church, and Forte de São Brás, or simply relax in a café near the marina.

Day 7:

Full-Day Eastern Sao Miguel/Furnas Tour

This scenic tour of the eastern side of Sao Miguel begins with a stop in the beautiful seaside town of Vila Franca do Campo to taste the famous Queijadas de Vila Franca, a traditional pastry refined by nuns in convents during the 1600s. You will continue to Terra Nostra Park to visit the award-winning botanical gardens and will have a chance to soak in the geothermal hot springs. The tour continues to Furnas Lake, where you will be able to watch your traditional cozido lunch being prepared using the island's geothermal energy. After lunch, you will continue to the viewpoint of Pico do Ferro, where you will see the archipelago’s oldest crater. On your return journey to Ponta Delgada, you’ll stop at a tea plantation and at the Santa Iria viewpoint to take in the breathtaking views.

Day 8:

Free Day on Sao Miguel

Today is yours to explore Sao Miguel on your own: continue to stroll through Ponta Delgada, or perhaps head out of town to another part of the island. The second-largest city of Ribeira Grande, the Gruta do Carvão lava caves, and the Caldeira Velha hot springs are just a few of the options.

Day 9:

Until Next Time

After breakfast, use the last of your time in Ponta Delgada to shop for souvenirs or simply relax at a café before your transfer back to the airport for your flight home.
